The Hobson family has farmed at Crockey Hill since 1847. With every generation the family farm has developed and evolved from the crops and livestock farmed to the huge advances in agricultural machinery.
Rodger Hobson joined the family business in 1990 and learnt the art of growing great carrots from his father. Many years of being passionate about providing top quality carrots and excellent customer service mean that Hobson Farming is now the UK’s largest grower of carrots for the processing market producing over 30,000 tonnes of carrots each year.

With more than 40 years of carrot growing experience we currently grow on over 800 acres of beautiful Yorkshire sand land. We work closely with local farmers, forming part of their crop rotation and value the importance of their knowledge of the land. We are very proud of the good reputation we are building for our fantastic crop, attention to detail and responsible harvesting.

Our mission is to provide the best fresh quality carrots to our customers all year round. This takes a lot of careful planning and expertise gained over the years and of course a little bit of luck with the Great British weather!
We invest in the best specialist machinery for the job which allows us to be pretty much self-sufficient, cultivating, drilling, spraying, spreading, irrigating, harvesting, washing and grading all our carrots. Maintenance and fabrication is also done in house. This gives us complete control to deliver quality and reliability to our customers.
SOIL, QUALITY & EXPERTISE
Sandy well drained soil is the key to growing great carrots. Before a single carrot seed is sown we analyse every field to understand the nutrition it requires and where the field should best fit into our year round harvesting program. During their growing life our agronomy expertise comes from Howard Hinds who is a world leader in his field. We keep a close eye on our carrots even when they are below ground by regularly sampling them to ensure we can always deliver on quality. All our carrots are grown locally and brought back to our farm to be washed and graded. They then get the Hobson stamp of approval before being delivered fresh to our customers.
